? TOPS IL 2490 will meet from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is from 9-9:30 a.m. For more information, contact Dovie Heaton-Bergin at 283-1729.
? CenterPointe Church, located at 1616 Veterans Ave. in Vandalia, is holding free Weekly Fit Club sessions at 6 p.m. every Thursday.
? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m., and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
? St. James Lutheran Church will hold its annual chili supper from 4-7 p.m.. The menu includes chili, hot dog or peanut butter sandwich, dessert and drinks. The cost is $6, with children under 10 eating free when accompanied by a paying adult.
? The Vandalia Lions Club will hold its annual Halloween parade at 7 p.m. The parade starts at Seventh and Gallatin streets, and travels east to Third Street.
? The Vandalia Swimming Pool staff will hold a haunted house, "Nightmare on Eighth Street," at the former Washington School on South Eighth Street after the Halloween parade until 10:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per person. All proceeds will go to the pool renovations.

Friday, Oct. 31

? The village of Brownstown will allow trick-or-treating from 5-7 p.m. After trick-or-treating, from 5-7 p.m., the Brownstown Park District will offer food and beverages, and award three costume prizes in two categories – homemade and purchased.
? Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown will hold Trunk or Treat from 5-6:30 p.m. In the event of rain, it will be held in the Brownstown Elementary School, cafeteria.
? Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care will hold safe trick-or-treating from 6-8 p.m.
? The city of Vandalia will allow trick-or-treating from 6-8 p.m.
? Bethel Baptist Church will hold Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. in the parking lot of DePaolo's Floor Covering on Sunset Drive.
? The Vandalia Swimming Pool staff will hold a haunted house at the former Washington School on South Eighth Street after trick-or-treat hours, from 8-11 p.m. Admission is $6 per person.
? Vandalia Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, located at 1500 W. St. Louis Ave., will hold Trick or Treat Turtle Style from 6-8 p.m. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle characters will be present, and free pizza will be provided for the first 100 trick-or-treaters. Games are planned.
? The Vandalia Moose Lodge is holding a Halloween party for Moose members and their guests at 7 p.m. It includes a cemetery walk at 8 p.m. and costume judging at 10 p.m.
? Halloween at the YMCA, free and open to the community,  will be held at the Family YMCA of Fayette County. It will include a costume contest for all ages, costume dodgeball, pumpkin decorating and free treats for trick-or-treaters. Photos of costumes may be uploaded to the Y's Facebook page, and the photo with the most likes by 9 p.m. will receive a prize. Dodgeball open to everyone will be held from 8-9 p.m. As this is a family event, costumes must be G-rated.
Saturday, Nov. 1

? The 34th annual Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest and Bluegrass Show will be held at the Patoka Civic Center. It opens at 5 p.m., with country singer Brenda Cook of Sullivan, Mo., followed by The Worthington Family performing bluegrass-gospel music. The fiddle contest begins at 6:15 p.m. Also scheduled to perform are Lane Mayfield of Vandalia and national open fiddle champion George Portz and his "Friends of Bluegrass." A cajun music set will also be performed. Full dinners, sandwiches and desserts will be served all evening. For more information, call 632-1384.

Sunday, Nov. 2

? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE meets at 2 p.m. at the VFW Home in Taylor Springs.

Monday, Nov. 3

? A state retirees health care coverage seminar will be held by Central Management Services and United Health Care from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham.
? Brownstown Elementary School will host a "We Choose Health" walk at the school track. Community members, staff and students may join the walk any time between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Those walking at least 20 minutes will be eligible to sign up for Subway gift cards at the end of the month. In case of inclement weather, the walk will be in the BES gym. Donations for Brownstown VFW Post 9770 will be accepted.
? An open house for the first anniversary of 6:35 Food Pantry will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. Cake and beverages will be served. The food pantry is located on Elm Street, just south of the city garage.
? The Women of the Moose will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

TUESDAY, NOV. 4

ELECTION DAY
Polls open 6 a.m.-7 p.m.
? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will hold a story time at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to attend.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse. ? Heartland Human Services will hold a Caregiver Connection seminar from 3-4 p.m. in the conference room at Brookstone Estates, 1607 W. Fillmore Street. The topic is "Care Comes Home." Refreshments will be provided.
? TOPS IL 2020 will meet in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:30 p.m., with the meeting to follow.
? A Weight Watchers meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Vandalia; weigh-in is at 5 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting free of charge.
? Rainbow Reflections, a grief support group, will meet from 6-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Mary Miller, 292-5366.
? The Fayette County Genealogical Society will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Good Old Days Banquet Center on Cumberland Road in Brownstown for dinner, followed by a brief business meeting and featured speaker. David Kent Coy will speak on "Coles County, the Civil War and the Charleston Riot." The meal is at 6 p.m., and the cost is $15. Reservations were required by Oct. 20; visit Gloria's Christian Supply in Vandalia or call Janet Friesner at 283-2549 to see if reservations will still be accepted. All are welcome to attend the business meeting and program, even if they are not attending the dinner.

Wednesday, Nov. 5

? The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse. A luncheon is followed by a business meeting and a program. State Rep. John Cavaletto (R-107th District) will be the guest speaker.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary meets at noon in the hospital conference room. The meeting date was changed from Tuesday, due to the fact that some members are election judges.

Thursday, Nov. 6

? The United Methodist Men's annual fish fry will be held from 4-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children age 12 and under. Tickets are available at the church office or from Methodist Men members, and will be sold at the door. The proceeds will benefit the Men's Coats and Shoes Project for Fayette County Children.
