There’s a lot going on this Saturday

How many times have you heard someone say, "There's never anything going on in Vandalia." Well, that's definitely not true this Saturday.
Saturday's schedule includes a slate full of activities, with the 45th annual Grande Levée topping that list. That popular event includes, as always, a ham and beans dinner with music on Friday evening, and period crafts, food and music throughout the day on Saturday.
Again running in conjunction with the Grande Levée in downtown Vandalia is the Vandalia Tourism Commission's Harvest Festival. That festival features all types of fun for all ages, including the Little Mister and Little Miss Harvest pageant at 11 a.m.
New to this year's festival schedule is an open house held by the Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department. The VVFD members will not only be showing off the city's new ladder truck, but will also allow the public to take an upclose look at all of their trucks and equipment.
Saturday also includes a couple of events outside of Vandalia.
They include the fourth annual Jordan fuNFest, an event held to raise funds for the fight againt neurofibromatosis. Held at Gatch Lake, that event features bingo, kids' games, silent and live auctions, raffles, a bake sale, bounce houses and face-painting.
South of St. Elmo on Saturday and Sunday is another event – the Happy Hollow Farms Fall Festival. That festival features live music, kids' activities, inflatables and more than 20 vendors.
So, you can't say that there's nothing to do here this weekend.
