A hot time on the Prairie

Callaway Smith, walking with the St. Peter Lutheran School youth, is armed with ice treats to hand out during the Prairie Days parade on Saturday afternoon in St. Peter.

Because of the high temperature and humidity, many entries in the St. Peter Prairie Days parade – including the South Central High School band – rode on trucks or trailers instead of walking.

The St. Peter Fire Protection District’s 50th anniversary float included the village fire department’s original hose cart, which was put into use in 1926.

Two of Fayette County’s 2014 queens, Little Miss Reagan Smith, and Miss Fayette County Sierah Ruffner, toss candy to parade-goers in St. Peter.

Aiden Hardiek drives an International Farmall tractor owned by Jim and Kathy Schroeder. The Schroeders painted the tractor pink to honor those who have fought breast cancer, including their daughters, Barb and Leann.
