Library now has Home School Group

Evans Public Library in Vandalia now has a Home School Group.
Home-schooling parents are invited to meet at the library to discuss home-schooling issues and other topics while their children socialize with each other and make a seasonal or holiday craft with the children's librarian.
Meetings will be held twice a month from September to May, on the first and third Wednesday of each month, at 1 p.m., at the library.

Farm Bureau crop survey is Aug. 28

The Fayette County Farm Bureau will hold its annual crop survey next Thursday, and its crop survey report and steak cookout that evening.
The cookout will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the basement of the Farm Bureau building, 1125 Sunset Drive in Vandalia. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the Farm Bureau office or from any Farm Bureau director.
Jim Riddle of Total Grain Marketing will be the speaker at the dinner.
Anyone who would like to help the Farm Bureau's marketing committee with the crop survey may contact Manager Stephanie Kraus or Karlee Kruenegel at 283-3276.

Patoka Fall Festival is next weekend

The Patoka Fall Festival will be held next weekend, with most activities at the park.
The Friday schedule includes a carnival at 5 p.m., a karate performance and bingo at 6 p.m. and a demolition derby at 7 p.m.
The Saturday schedule included a 5K race at 8 a.m., parade at 11 a.m., lunch from 11:30-1:30 p.m., carnival and volleyball tournament at noon, pedal pull at 1 p.m., bingo at 2 p.m., music by Jamie Nattier at 4 p.m. and C-Bar Rodeo at 7 p.m.
The Sunday schedule includes a community church service at 10:30 p.m. and brunch at the Legion Home after the service.

Prairie Days is this weekend

The 39th annual Prairie Days celebration in St. Peter will be held this Friday and Saturday.
The event kicks off with a fish, chicken and ribeye dinner at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Friday schedule also includes softball and sand volleyball tournaments, and music by "Crazy Horse" at 8 p.m.
The Saturday schedule includes a parade at 1 p.m., AirEvac display at 3:30 p.m., cake walk at 4 p.m., David Belcher's dove and serpent martial arts demonstration at 5 p.m., "3 River Roll" at 7:30 p.m., national anthem by Kyla Hall at 8 p.m. and music by "Bumpin' Uglies" at 8:30 p.m.

VVFD golf scramble is Aug. 29

The Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department will hold its second annual four-person golf scramble on Friday, Aug. 29, at Vandalia Country and Golf Club.
The cost is $200 per team, and lunch at 11 a.m. is followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.

FourGiven to perform in Ramsey

The FourGiven Quartet and Masterplan will perform at the Rehoboth campground in Ramsey this Saturday.
The concert will follow a Rehoboth Church camp fundraising pulled pork dinner at 5:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted for the meal.
