Ramsey shooting, Pana standoff may have a link

Authorities investigating a standoff in the Pana area that ended with a Pana man being fatally shot and a police officer wounded are studying a link to a prior shooting incident in Fayette County.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a home southeast of Pana at about 3:15 a.m. on Tuesday for a report of “a man with a gun,” according to the Illinois State Police.
The state police said that a Pana officer assigned to the Central Illinois Enforcement Group found an armed male in the home. That man shot the officer, then fled to the roof of the residence, setting it on fire.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office and ISP SWAT officers arrived at the home, and attempted negotiations. After the armed male fired at the officers, SWAT officers returned fire, fatally striking him.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was among the agencies responding to the incident due to an incident earlier on Tuesday. Initial reports indicate that the sheriff’s office was called to Ramsey for a report of a shooting.
No details on that incident were known as of press time on Wednesday, as Sheriff Aaron Lay was unavailable for comment.
