Emmily Leidner’s Relay for Life speech

Emmily Leidner, age 9, was the guest speaker during the luminaria ceremony at the Mini-Relay for Life on Friday evening in Rogier Park in Vandalia.

Her address follows:
“My name is Emmily Leidner. First, I would like to thank my mom and dad, and everyone for coming.
“I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 2 and then when I was 7. I am in remission now.
“I went through a lot of chemo and radiation, and I had lots of support from family and friends and God. I have had bad and good days.
“Sheriff (Aaron) Lay and his wife, Jan, were there (with me) a lot. One night, they stayed until 3 a.m. I painted his nails; that made me laugh and smile.
“Dave (Leigh) and his wife of Sunset 66 got us tickets to go to a Cardinals baseball game. It was fun.
“Thank you to everyone for all of the support that you gave us.”
