Revival starts Sunday at Liberty Christian
A series of revival services is planned at Liberty Christian Church, starting this Sunday and running through Wednesday, at 7 p.m. nightly. Mark Scott from Ozark Christian College will be preaching, starting on Sunday morning and continuing each evening during the revival.
Music during the revival will be provided by the musical group Banbury Cross of Fouts Christian Church. The group will perform several songs written by band members.
A pie night will be held on Wednesday after the service.
Also planned during the same week is a kids revival for children from 3 years through fifth grade. The summer theme of "Weird" will be continued for the kids revival. The lessons will explore some of the "weird" things that are described in the Bible.
Liberty Christian Church is located 5 1/2 miles north of Brownstown on College Avenue.
Emmanuel Church to celebrate 125 years
Emmanuel United Methodist Church in rural Brownstown will hold a 125th-anniversary service at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday.
Following the worship service, a luncheon will be held at noon and an afternoon service of reminiscing and singing will follow at 1 p.m.

Steve Ladd at Liberty Christian Aug. 16
Steve Ladd will be in concert at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m.
Before becoming a soloist, Ladd sang with the Anchormen and Gold City. He also has been singing with the Southern Illinois Homecoming Gospel Choir.
Mother of Dolors rummage sale Aug. 1, 2
A rummage sale will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, and Saturday, Aug. 2, at Mother of Dolors Parish Center in Vandalia.
Located at 705 W. St. Clair St., the sale will feature clothing for infants, children and adults; kitchen items; furniture; books and much more. Everything will be half price on Saturday.
Chronicle to perform at Bethalto Aug. 2
Chronicle, a Louisiana-based Southern gospel band, will appear in concert on at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bethalto Church of God in Bethalto.

The Barn to host Conquerors Quartet
The Conquerors Quartet from Evansville, Ind., will be in concert at The Barn in rural Pana at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2. The group has been together since 1990.
The performance will highlight the 16th anniversary celebration of The Barn.
Joanne Clark, who has managed the musical programs at The Barn, indicated that this will be the last anniversary program and that the programs will end after December.

Collingsworth Family in Salem Aug. 1
The Collingsworth Family, one of the most recognized family groups in Southern gospel music in recent years, will appear in concert at First Christian Church in Salem on Friday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m.
They are appearing as a part of the gospel music concert series sponsored by the church. The group features vocal as well as instrumental selections. The family formerly performed with the Gaither Homecoming video series.
The church is located at 1200 W. Boone St. in Salem. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

'Souled-Out' retreat Aug. 8-10 in Cowden
A weekend Christian youth retreat called “Souled-Out” will be held on Aug. 8-10 at Cowden Free Methodist Church campgrounds for young people in grades 7-12.
Guest speaker for the weekend will be Lexie Mahaffey. Providing music for the weekend will be Campus Christian House, a band from Eastern Illinois University. The retreat is free.
Registration begins at 4 p.m. Friday, with dinner at 5 p.m. and a worship service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s program includes a morning service project, afternoon recreation activities a worship service at 7 p.m. and an outdoor movie at 8:30 p.m. The retreat concludes with a Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. and a potluck meal at noon.
