Fourth of July activities in three area communities

The Fourth of July is being celebrated in three area communities.
The Vandalia Lions Club is again providing a carnival in the Vandalia Lake marina campgrounds. This year, the carnival is available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
On Saturday evening, at dusk, the Lions will again provide the community’s fireworks display over the lake.
The village of Farina’s Fourth of July celebration begins in the middle of Friday afternoon and runs until late that evening.
The annual Fourth of July parade begins at 3 p.m., with signup beginning at 2 p.m.
The remainder of the celebration schedule at the Farina Village Park is:
• 4-9 p.m. – Kids’ games.
• 5 p.m. – Bingo and a cake walk.
• 6-6:15 p.m. – Opening ceremony by Farina American Legion Post 411, with Kyla Stevens singing the national anthem.
• 6:15-7 p.m. – “Artie, the Clown” of Noah’s Ark.
• 7 p.m. – Music by “Sampson Jones Gang.”
• 8:30 p.m. – Raffle drawing.
• 9:15 p.m. – Fireworks display.
• 9:45-10:15 p.m. – Music by Jamie Nattier and Denise Alexander.
The celebration will include a military display in the park pavilion, and a variety of food and drinks, including homemade ice cream, funnel cakes and lemon shake-ups.
Celebration organizers emphasize that because it a family celebration, alcohol is not allowed on the park grounds.
Herrick’s Fourth of July celebration got under way on Wednesday with free rides, a flag ceremony conducted by local Boy Scouts, a crowing of celebration royalty, and music and a church service.
The celebration continues on Thursday in Tom Davis Park with free rides from 6-10 p.m. and music by “Battle Creek Band” at 7 p.m.
The Friday schedule includes:
• 6-10 a.m. – Boy Scouts’ breakfast.
• 11 a.m.-9 p.m. – Free rides, with a break from 5-6 p.m.
• 10 a.m. – Fourth of July parade, with lineup beginning at 10 a.m. at Herrick Grade School.
• 11 a.m. – Music by “Van Waylon” and kids’ games.
• 3 p.m. – Music by “Café Country.”
• 7 p.m. – Music by “Stone Blue 52.”
• 8:45 p.m. – Raffle drawing.
• Dusk – Fireworks display.
