Pool fundraiser includes water carnival

As part of its ongoing efforts to help raise funds for the rehabilitation of the Vandalia Swimming Pool, the pool staff is offering special activities during its first Moonlight Madness of the summer.
This Friday’s Moonlight Madness will include a pool carnival that will feature pool activities and games.
The pool fundraiser will feature games from 4-9 p.m., and swimming from 6-11:30 p.m.
The carnival includes a mechanical surfboard, big slide, dunk tank, ring toss and bean bag toss. Throughout the evening, the pool staff will be selling glow necklaces ($2) and bracelets ($1), and snow cones ($1).
The dunk tank will feature local celebrities, including Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray, Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison, county sheriff candidate Chris Smith, Vandalia Board of Education President Chris Palmer and Vandalia Community High School teacher Jeremy Curll.
Admission for the Moonlight Madness and Carnival, which covers games and swimming, is $10 per person. For season pass holders, the cost is $5 for games.
For those wishing to do only special activities, the cost is: big slide, $2 per ride; mechanical surfboard, $3 per ride; and dunk tank, $1 each time.
The pool staff is continuing to sell footprints, which are displayed in the pool bathhouse, for $1 each, and “Save Our Pool” T-shirts for $10.

Pool Manager Lisa Robbins announced this week that swimming lessons will run from July 7-Aug. 1.
The four-week classes will be held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. One class runs from 10-11 a.m., and the other runs from 11 a.m.-noon.
The cost is $48. Families with three or more children will pay a maximum of $120.
Registration runs until June 30 or until classes are full. Payment and registration is accepted only at the pool; over-the-phone registration is not accepted.
