Storm-shortened Relay For Life still raises $30,000

Though Saturday's annual Relay For Life was cut short by threatening weather, the local fundraising event for the American Cancer Society still did an excellent job of raising funds in the fight against cancer.
After months of preparation and other fundraising events – such as the Volley For The Cure, which raised about $7,000 – Saturday's even can still be deemed a success.
Though the outdoor walk was called off after about six hours of the 12 that were scheduled, preliminary assessments indicate that the event raised more than  $30,000 toward its goal of $35,000.
Sue Denning, co-chair of this year's relay, said that a mini-relay is being considered for sometime in July to finish off the luminaria ceremony and other activities that weren't held on Saturday.
As always, the Relay For Life is an encouraging indicator of the compassion and generosity of the citizens of Fayette County. Those people give sacrificially to help fund cancer research.
We applaud all those whose efforts made the relay a success once again. Even the inclement weather can't diminish their accomplishments.
