Pool opens this weekend

The Vandalia Public Swimming Pool will open for the season this Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. Saturday hours are 1-5 p.m. and Sunday’s hours are 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Due to school being in session June 2-4, the pool will be open from 6-8 p.m. only on those days.
The pool will begin its regular season hours on Thursday, June 5. Those hours are: Sunday-Friday, 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; and Saturdays 1-5 p.m. only, due to private parties. There must be 10 people present to open the pool on cool or questionable weather days and nights.
Children age 4 years and under will be admitted free of charge, and the admission fee for all others is $4. Those who pay to swim from 1-5 p.m. may return to swim free from 6-8, but must get their hand stamped. Anyone entering the deck area must pay admission.
Those children who are not potty trained must wear a swim diaper (Little Swimmers). Regular diapers with rubber pants are not allowed, due to health concerns.
The staff reminds the public that the swimming pool is a family friendly place. Fighting, bullying and foul language will not be tolerated by anyone of any age.
Season pass prices remain the same as last year:
• Single passes are $150 for those living in the park district and $200 for those outside the district.
• Family passes are $300 for those living in the park district with 1-6 people. For more than six, the pass is $50 more per person. For those living outside the park district, a pass for a family of 1-6 is $350, and $50 more per person over six.
Lifeguard training will begin on Saturday, June 7, at 11 a.m. with a swimming pre-test. All candidates must pass this test to be allowed in the class. Classes will meet Monday-Friday, June 9-20, from 9 a.m.-noon. A final test will be held on Friday, June 20.
The cost is $225, and participants must pay on the first day of class. Registration is through June 1.
The class fee includes book rental (for those who do not have Internet access), pocket mask, fanny pack, whistle, and first aid and CPR/AED training.
To register, call Lisa Robbins at 283-4800.
