KICK classes at Vandalia KC announced

The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College announces the schedule for KICK classes to be held in June at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Fillmore St.
• Tye Dying – Tye–dying is a hip new trend for the youth. Get the “wrap” on tye-dying through this fun, interactive workshop. Design two of your own psychedelic T-shirts using a mixture of tye-dying techniques and effects. Students are to take two of their own white T-shirts. All other supplies are included. The class will be held Tuesday and Thursday, June 10 and 12, from 10 a.m.-noon. The class is for students in all grades and the cost is $15. The registration number is CKICK 5210 VA01D.
• Beginning Beekeeping – Students will learn all about bees and beekeeping, as well as learn to maintain a healthy hive and where honey really comes from. The class will be held Friday, June 13, from 1-3 p.m. The class is for students in grades 6-8, and the cost is $10. The registration number is COED 8033 VA01D.
• Beginning Guitar – This beginning guitar class will teach students to use cords, read music and play simple songs. The class will be held Monday mornings, June 16-July 28, from 9-11 a.m. The class is for students ages 11 years and older. The cost is $50. The registration number is COED 8093 VA01D.
• Get Up, Get Out and Play – Join us outside for some fun outdoor activities. In the first class, for grades 1-3, students will learn to play kickball, Wiffle ball and soccer. In the second class, for grades 4-6, students will learn to play kickball, Wiffle ball and sand volleyball. Both classes will be held Tuesday through Thursday, June 17-19.  The first session will be from 10 a.m.-noon and is for students in grades 1-3, with registration number CKICK 5431 VA01D. The second session will be held from 1-3 p.m. and is for students in grades 4-6, with registration number CKICK 5431 VA02D. Both classes will be held at the Fayette County YMCA and the cost is $15.
• Pet Care – Students will learn how to properly care for pets as they learn to feed, handle and wash them. Students do not need to be a pet owner to attend. The class will be held Wednesday, June 18, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The class is for students in all grades and the cost is $10. The registration number is CKICK 5308 VA01D.
• Storytellin’ – There will be three sessions of this class with all sessions being held Friday, June 20. The first session is for students in kindergarten through second grade and will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. This session will teach the children a short story in a lively workshop with games and exercises to develop creativity and storytelling skills. Session II, titled “Learn a Fable Today,” is for students in grades 3–5 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. In this highly interactive workshop, participants will learn how to tell a fable without memorizing the words. Students will learn a story through tableaus, story maps and kinesthetic. Session III, titled “Become a Storyteller,” is for students in grades 6-8 and will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Students will select a fable and then work with a professional storyteller to develop that fable into a story told with flare. Students will learn to take a simple fable and add visual images, sensory details and sound effects. The instructor for all three session is Phyllis Hostmeyer and the cost for each session is $5. Registration numbers are CKICK 5277 VA01D (session I), CKICK 5277 VA02D (session II) and CKICK 5277 VA03D (session III).
• Insect Investigation – This is an introductory course on identifying, studying and collecting insects, both beneficial insects and those that are economically damaging. Equipment for collection, study and preservation will be covered, along with the various insect orders and possible careers in entomology. The class will be held Friday, June 20, from 1-3 p.m. for students in grades three and up. The cost for this course is $10 and the registration number is  CKICK 5306 VA01D.
• Golf for Kids – This course is an introduction to golf for kids. Emphasis is on rules of the sport, fundamentals of the golf swing, driving, irons, etc. Students who have clubs may use their own; borrowed clubs will be available. The class will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday, June 23, 25 and 27, from 9-11 a.m. This class will be held at the Fayette County YMCA and is for students in all grades. The cost for this course is $15 and the registration number is CKICK 5302 VA01D.
• Drawing – Students will develop skills and techniques that make drawing fun. The instructor will lead the students through an exploration of basic drawing principles and experiment with different ideas. The class will be held Monday and Wednesday, June 23 and 25, from 12:30-2 PM. The class is for students in all grades and the cost is $10. The registration number is CKICK 5171 VA01D.
• Beginning Sign Language – Through teacher-student application and demonstrations, students will learn basic sign language. Learn numbers, alphabet and basic words and phrases. The class will be held Tuesday and Thursday, June 24 and 26, from 1-3 p.m. The class is for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and the cost is $15. The registration number for the class is CKICK 5160 VA01D.
