Hill makes fourth state meet

Brownstown/St. Elmo senior Molly Hill will make her fourth appearance at the Illinois High School Association Class 1A state meet, and will be looking to make the discus finals for the second time in her career.

Hill’s sectional throw of 111 feet, 6 inches is the 13th-best among qualifers, and she needs to be in the top 12 to make finals.

She made the finals as a sophomore, placing seventh, with a throw of 116 feet, 2 inches, but her other two state appearances saw her fail to reach 100 feet.

Hill threw 98 feet, 4 inches as a junior and 97 feet, 4 inches as a freshman, but will look to recapture her sophomore magic at Thursday’s state preliminaries at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

The discus will not be held until all flights of the shot put have finished. Shot put is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

Brownstown/St. Elmo senior Molly Hill qualified to throw discus in the Illinois High School Association state track meet for the fourth time in her career. She is seen above throwing in last year’s event.
