BSE baseball, South Central softball win play-in games

Senior Jacob Behrends struck out nine, and fourth-seeded Brownstown/St. Elmo collected five doubles to knock off No. 5 Patoka, 3-2, in Monday’s regional play-in game.

Behrends dominated Patoka this year, going 3-0 against the Warriors in three complete games, striking out 45 batters in 21 innings.

He also had one of the team’s doubles, and was joined by freshman Landon Feezel, junior Drake Hall and seniors Levi Maxey and Dalton Parks.

Feezel, Hall and senior Dustin Lawson each drove home a run for the Bombers (16-9).
Lawson, Maxey and Behrends had each hit in five straight games.

BSE connected for seven hits and drew walks off of Patoka senior Clinton Hood, who struck out five.

Hood doubled on offense, and senior Johnnie Clift hit a two-run in the fifth to pull Patoka (12-10) within a run of the lead.

BSE continued to the semifinals of the Altamont Regional on Wednesday, when the Bombers faced top-seeded North Clay. The winner takes on either South Central or Altamont on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Lady Cougars scored in all but one inning to beat Webber, 12-3, in Monday’s regional play-in game in St. Peter.

Fourth-seeded South Central got two hits from five players against No. 5 Webber, which South Central also defeated during the regular season.

Freshman Alannah Sigrist had a pair of singles and scored five times for the Lady Cougars (2-18), sophomore Abby King was he winning pitcher and tripled, and junior Jordan Schaal had a team-high three RBI.

Also recording two hits were: Mia Campbell, Sidney Wilkins, Bailey Ritter and King.
