? Local author Jenny Harrison will read her new book, "Nice and Cozy," at 4 p.m. at Evans Public Library.
? Vandalia Alumni and Friends will hold a buffet fish fry from 4-7 p.m. in the Vandalia Junior High School cafeteria. The cost is $9 for adults, and $6 for ages 11 and under. Tickets are available at all Vandalia Schools offices, and will be sold at the door. Checks used as payment should be written out to: OCF/VAF Foundation.
? The Vandalia Tourism Commission will host its second annual Armed Forces Tribute on the Vandalia Statehouse Lawn. A meal catered by Country Rhodes of Effingham will be available for $9, beginning at 5 p.m. The event includes several veterans speaking on their military experiences and music by the Illinois Army National Guard's 144th Army Band from Springfield, with the program starting at 6 p.m.
Saturday, May 17

? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE and Vandalia Tourism Commission will hold their annual Family Fun Fest on Gallatin Street in Vandalia. A bike show will feature seven classes, with registration from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and judging at 2 p.m. The event also includes vendors, kids' activities, inflatibles, Law Dogs paintball booth and military vehicle display.

? An open horse show will be held at the Okaw Saddle Club, located northwest of Vandalia at Lakewood Drive and Thrill Hill road. Pleasure classes begin at 9 a.m., and speed classes begin at 1 p.m.
Monday, May 19

? The annual fundraising lunch for the Golden Circle Nutrition Center at the Senior Citizens Center, 616 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $8, and the menu includes fried chicken, ham, beef and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, gourmet carrots, cobbler, ice cream, iced tea and lemonade. To make reservations, due by this Thursday, call 283-1040. Carry-outs will be available.
? The Women of the Moose will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.

? TOPS IL 2020 will meet in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:30 p.m., with the meeting to follow.
? The Fayette County Board of Health will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the board room at the Fayette County Health Department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia.
? A Weight Watchers meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Vandalia; weigh-in is at 5 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting free of charge.
? Rainbow Reflections, a grief support group, will meet from 6-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to contact Mary Miller, 292-5366.

? Evans Public Library in Vandalia will host PACK (Pups Assisting Children with Kindness) from 5:30-6:45 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome to read to DarnFar Ranch's specially trained therapy dogs. Registration is required; to register, call the library, 283-2824, or stop by the library.
