The Rev. Roger Grimmett, who has served as pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia for the past six years, announced this week that he has been appointed district superintendent over 73 churches in the Mississippi River District in Southwestern Illinois.
In that role, which begins July 1, Grimmett will be one of 10 district superintendents south of Interstate 80 in Illinois. His office will be in O’Fallon, and he and his wife, Brenda, will be living in Fairview Heights.
“I’ll serve as a ‘pastor to pastors,’” he said. “I’ll help support and encourage them, and, if needed, help churches and pastors work out problems. I’ll also help conduct charge conference meetings in each church.
"I'll also do some fill-in preaching, and will go listen to pastors preach in their churches. That will be exciting, because the action really is in the local church.
“It’s been a fantastic experience here in Vandalia – it's a great church and a great community. And the fellowship between the ministers was unbelievable.”
