FCH 5K run is on June 21

Friends and Families of Fayette County Hospital will be hosting a 5K fun run/walk on June 21.

The event will begin and end at the southwest parking lot of the hospital. The race will start at 9 a.m., with registration opening at 8:15 a.m.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers, and all registrants who are signed up before May 31 will be guaranteed a race T-shirt.

The entry fee is $25, and all funds raised will be donated to Friends and Families of FCH, which has purchased more than $1.5 million worth of medical equipment for the FCH.

B-town VFW raffling auto'd baseballs

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9770 in Brownstown is raffling off 10 baseballs signed by baseball legends.
The raffle drawing will be held on June 7.

The 10 baseball available are: Bob Gibson, Stan Musial, Whitey Herzog, Tony LaRussa, Ryne Sandberg, Rod Carew, Dennis Eckersley, Al Kaline, Wade Boggs and Jim Palmer

Tickets are available in Vandalia at Land of Lincoln Credit Union, Vandalia Mutual Insurance, First National Bank in Vandalia, County Market and Vandalia Bowl.

YMCA again hosting MLB event

The Family YMCA of Fayette County will once again be hosting a local level competition in Major League Baseball’s national Pitch, Hit and Run and contest.

The free skills competition will be held at the YMCA’s soccer fields on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., with registration to begin at 1 p.m.

Boys and girls will be divided into age groups (7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14) for the competition in the first of four levels of the contest.

All participants must provide a copy of their birth certificate and have a parent or legal guardian present to fill out registration and waiver forms.

Winners in pitching, hitting and running, as well as the all-around champion, in each age level for boys and girls will move on to the sectional.

Winners at the sectional advance to the team championship level, which is held at MLB’s stadiums, and the finals will be held at the All-Star Game in Minneapolis this July.

YMCA's Healthy Kids Day is Saturday

The Family YMCA of Fayette County is holding its annual Healthy Kids Day on April 26 from 9 a.m.-noon.

The event will take place at the YMCA, and several activities have been planned, including:

•Community Garden activity
•Subway man
•Karate demonstration
•Arch helicopter landing
•RC monster trucks
•Story time
•Crafts
