If administrators at St. Elmo High School were to ever allow a student to make the boys basketball schedule, they probably shouldn’t give the duty to junior Levi Maxey.
Because the Eagles would probably play Altamont in every game of the season.
Maxey torched the Indians for 36 points in last Friday’s contest, besting the 33 points he scored against Altamont in the title game of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament in December and leading the Eagles to a 58-49 National Trail Conference victory.
The win was St. Elmo’s seventh straight against its Route 40 rival, and the Eagles’ fourth straight win on the season, moving the team to 6-3 in the NTC.
St. Elmo struggled in the second period, scoring just four points to go down 25-18 at halftime, but by using a 15-8 run on the other side of the break, the Eagles set up a tie game going to the final period.
There, St. Elmo would score 25 points and take command of the contest, as Maxey finished up his career night.
He nailed six 3-pointers in the game, and was 10-of-15 from the free-throw line. In addition, he had a game-high six steals and grabbed four rebounds.
Seniors Garrett Bartels and Connor Beasley each added eight points for the Eagles (15-10, 6-3 NTC), and junior Reece Wells scored six.
