Several from area to be honored by Kaskaskia College

Five local natives will be inducted to the Kaskaskia College Hall of Fame on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Vandalia’s Robert Garrison and Mulberry Grove’s Curt Thacker will be inducted as members of the 1988-89 baseball team, and Brownstown’s Lyle Doehring, and Patoka’s Luke Walker and Harlan Gerrish will be inducted as members of the 1966-67 men’s basketball team.

The induction ceremony will be held following the Blue Angels women’s basketball game at 2:30 p.m. A brunch will be held prior to the induction.

Tickets for the event are $15 and include admission to the basketball game.

The baseball team won KC’s first Great Rivers Athletic Conference championship, and finished the season 25-7 in the fall and 27-21 in the spring.

The Devils won the sectional tournament, and placed fourth in the Region 24 Tournament.

Kaskaskia College was used as the team’s name for the first time in basketball in the 1966-67 season, and the team went 20-5 and won the Section IV Tournament, the equivalent of the NJCAA Region 24 Tournament.

KC went on play in the state’s final four at Illinois State, losing to Chicago Wright College, 72-70, but beating Canton College, 90-68, to take third.
