Vandalia Idol scheduled for March

Soroptimist of Vandalia will be holding its third Vandalia Idol contest in March.
Vandalia Idol is a singing competition open to all ages of amateur vocalists.
Auditions will be held on two nights, March 9 and 16, at First Baptist Church in Vandalia.
Three finalists will be chosen each night from each of the two age groups. The finalists will be asked to return on March 23 for the finale.
From the final 12, two Vandalia Idols and two runners-up, one from each age group, will be chosen.
The winners will receive $250 cash and the runner-ups will receive $100 in cash.
In response to the many requests over the past two Vandalia Idol contests, the Soroptimists are having two age groups this year –14 and under for the youth division and 15 or older for the adult division.
The public is invited to attend the auditions and the finale, with admission being $3 per person.
Registrations are available at most area banks and at the Kaskaskia College campus in Vandalia. Information can be requested at [email protected]
There is no age or residency restriction.
Vandalia Idol is open to solo entries only, with background music on CDs or singing a capella.
The $25 registration fee – along with the name of the contestant, contact information and song information – should be sent to the Soroptimist of Vandalia at P.O. Box 171, Vandalia, Ill. 62471. Entries must be postmarked by March 1. Look for Vandalia Idol on Facebook.
This event will be a fundraiser for the local Soroptimist Club. Funds raised by the club’s fundraising events are used to provide funds for our annual awards and community projects.
Its current community projects include support of OUR PLACE Youth Center, GED testing fees for women, planting of community flower barrels, Violet Richardson Award for Volunteerism and its Women’s Opportunity Award for a woman returning to school to earn a degree and better her life and that of her family.
