Congratulations, graduates!

It’s the time of year when “Pomp & Circumstance” can be heard wafting from high school gymnasiums across the country.
Proud parents and family members gather to celebrate the milestones being completed by their graduates, and the schools pass out awards to note those graduates’ accomplishments.
On many fronts, it’s a fun time. Families are gathered. Compliments are shared. Futures are contemplated. And friendships are affirmed.
But it’s also a time of potential danger. When the celebration involves alcohol or illegal drugs, it can turn to tragedy in a heartbeat. We encourage area graduates to celebrate sensibly, and to do so without adding unnecessary and unwise dangers to this special time.
Following is a list of area graduations this weekend: Patoka High School, 7 p.m. Friday; South Central High School, 7 p.m. Friday; Mulberry Grove High School, 1 p.m. Saturday; Vandalia Community High School, 7 p.m. Saturday; St. Elmo High School, 7 p.m. Saturday; and Ramsey High School, 3 p.m. Sunday.
We urge you to attend one or more of those graduation ceremonies. You’ll be impressed with the capabilities of our young people, and you’ll be able to do your part to send them into the world with an extra measure of encouragement.
Congratulations graduates!
