NEW: Double fatality ruled suicide-homicide

After an extensive investigation by Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen into the Feb. 19 crash on U.S. Route 51 south of Vandalia, a conclusion as to the cause of the crash has been reached.

Two people lost their lives in this crash, 22-year-old Joshua Jezek of Sandoval  and 74-year-old Robert Norris of Vernon.

Bowen said the investigation determined that Jezek was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he intentionally crossed the center line, striking the southbound Norris pickup.

Bowen said Norris pulled to the side of the road and nearly came to a stop prior to Jezek striking his pickup. The crash sent the Norris pickup down an embankment where it came to rest on its side.

The Jezek vehicle burst into flames, making several turns down the roadway before coming to rest.

Due to these findings Jezek's death will be ruled a suicide and Norris's a homicide, Bowen said.
