Barbara A. Mason, 69, Vandalia

Barbara Ann Mason, 69, of Vandalia, died at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.

Graveside services will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday at Union Cemetery in rural Vandalia, with the Rev. Harry Kirk officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials: American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be shared at www.hohltandfile.com.

Mrs. Mason was born on Nov. 22, 1942, in Vandalia, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy Miller Eckhardt. She married Charles “Sonny” Mason; he died on Sept 22, 2005.

She worked at IGA and Chick’s Package Liquor, and was a member of Overcup Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Jim Mason and special friend LuAnn Nestrick of Vandalia; daughter, Carla and her husband Jon Larson of Bluff City; brothers, Dick Eckhardt and his wife Janet of Altamont, Kenny Eckhardt and his wife Marilyn of Brownstown, and John Eckhardt and his wife Marsha of Vandalia; sister-in-law, Janet Eckhardt; grandchildren, Chris Mason and his wife Stephanie, Tiffany and her husband Jason Hipsher, Craig Mason, Tina Larson and Clint Mason; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Larry Eckhardt; and infant brother, Gary Eckhardt.
