Vandal wrestlers struggle against Lena-Winslow at state tournament

BLOOMINGTON – The Vandal wrestlers had trouble against Lena-Winslow in the team state quarterfinals on Saturday morning, falling 58-9 and only securing two match wins.

Those back-to-back wins came from junior Zach Jackson, who pinned Dakota Cain in 1:36, and senior Dayin Godberson, who won a 9-5 decision against Dylan Gahm.

After that, however, that Vandals still trailed, 16-9, and then were not able to secure any more wins, with five of the next seven wrestlers losing by fall.

Coach Jason Clay elected not to comment directly following the match, but there will be more coverage on the loss in this week's edition of The Leader-Union.

Vandalia finishes the season with a 19-8 team record, while Lena-Winslow improved to a 22-1 and moved on to the afternoon semifinals.
