Ulmer and Edwards still alive in wrestle-backs at state

Seniors Levi Ulmer and Daniel Edwards will both wrestle on the third day of the Illinois High School Association Individual State Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.

Ulmer, who lost to Logan Staver, 3-0, in the championship semifinals, got an automatic spot in the wrestle-back semifinals, meaning he will place.

The wrestle-back semifinals begin at 11 a.m., and the fifth-place matches take place at 1 p.m. – that is where Ulmer would wrestle if he loses in the semifinals. The third-place matches begin at 5:30 p.m. – that is where the 195-pounder would wrestle if he wins.

His opponent is to be determined Saturday morning during the 9:30 a.m. wrestle-back quarterfinals. He will face either Alex Peterson (36-5) or Kenny Lindsey (33-4).

Edwards recorded Vandalia's first pin of the tournament during the wrestle-back round, defeating Josh Merrill by fall at 4:35. Earlier in the day, he lost in the championship quarterfinals.

The 152-pounder will wrestle Gage Hedges (34-11) of Monmouth-Roseville in the wrestle-back quarterfinals.
