Man accused in stabbing to be in court Wednesday

An Edgewood man who was arrested after a stabbing in the southeast corner of Fayette County a little more than a week ago was to make his first court appearance with an attorney on Wednesday.
Walter L. West, 20, faces felony aggravated battery charges for his role in an incident on April 15 at a home in rural Laclede.
The Illinois State Police reported that they received a 911 call about an altercation at 6:03 p.m. on April 15. Three troopers responded to the scene.
Jared L. Depoister, 26, reportedly sustained stabbing injuries and was taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. He was later transferred to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
West was taken into custody by state police on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon and obstructing justice.
Last Monday, Fayette County State’s Attorney Stephen Friedel filed two counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $25,000.
Bond for West was set at $150,000.
