Betty J. Smith, 79, Vandalia

Betty J. Smith, 79, of Vandalia, died at 1:23 a.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011, at her home.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Evans Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice or Crown Point Church in rural Vandalia.

Mrs. Smith was born on Feb. 15, 1932, in Vandalia, the daughter of Elden Ross and Lydia Ellen Karr Carson. She married Evert Monroe “Pat” Smith on Aug. 20, 1949, in Fayette County; he died on April 18, 1997. Memorials: Crown Point Church, rural Vandalia.

She is survived by a son, Brett Smith of Vandalia; and daughters, Sandy and her husband Dean Devall of Vandalia, and Lori and her husband John McNeely of Vandalia.
