Clifford D. Ray, 47, of Vandalia, died at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial with a fire department bell-tolling will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday and one hour before services on Saturday, both at the church. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Ray was born on Dec. 26, 1963, in Vandalia, the son of C. Ivan and Norma Lucille Grubaugh Ray. He married Shirley Ann Snyder on April 13, 1996, in Branson, Mo.
He was a water distribution employee for the city of Vandalia, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Vandalia, Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department and Old National Trail Firefighters Association.
In addition to being a dedicated firefighter with the Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department for more than 23 years, Clifford enjoyed sharing his knowledge with and training new firefighters as they joined the department.
He is survived by his wife; stepson, C.J. Schilling and his fiancée Jessika of Vandalia; father; brothers, Mike Ray and his wife Sandy of Patoka, and Scott Ray of Vandalia; and extended family, Betty Snyder of Vandalia, Bonnie and Darrell Hall of Pana, Doris and Kenny Kelly of Vandalia, Kay Snyder of Vandalia, Leroy and Norma Snyder of Vandalia, Carolyn Burrus of Bingham and Larry Snyder of Vandalia.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
