Mabel K. Hall, 85, of Vandalia, died at 1:20 p.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011.
Services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Overcup Baptist Church in rural Bluff City, with the Rev. Doug Wodtka officiating. Burial was in Boaz Cemetery in rural Bluff City. Visitation was held an hour before services on Tuesday at the church. Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Overcup Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hall was born on April 30, 1925, in Vandalia, the daughter of William B. and Stella Mae Cearlock Jones. She married James “Bruce” Hall on March 14, 1942; he died on Nov. 26, 1992.
She was a seamstress at Princess Peggy Dress Factory in Vandalia for 18½ years, and she gave guitar lessons at Staff Music in Vandalia for many years. She was a member of Overcup Baptist Church and Crawford-Hale American Legion Unit 95 in Vandalia, and was very active with Evergreen Outreach and the Senior Citizens Center, both in Vandalia.
She is survived by sons, Bruce Hall and his wife Gloria of Vandalia, and Johny Hall and his wife Anita of Champaign; daughter, Mitzi and her husband Mike Balkauskas of Champaign; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Jacquelene “Jackie” Portz; two brothers, two half brothers; two sisters; and a half sister.
