Applications for Scarpaci Foundation funds now being accepted

April 2 is the approaching deadline for the Scarpaci Foundation applications.
On May 24, 1989, a board of directors met at the First National Bank of Vandalia to organize and approve the bylaws for the Joe and Elwena Scarpaci Foundation.
Mrs. Scarpaci had noticed and was impressed by the record of the Ruemmelin Foundation, which was established in 1978, and decided upon a similar trust in her and her husband’s names.
Throughout their lives, Mr. and Mrs. Scarpaci were active members in their church, Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, and civic organizations.
Included on the Scarpaci Foundation Board of Directors are the mayor of Vandalia, superintendent of Vandalia Schools, president of the Vandalia Park District Board, administrator of Fayette County Hospital and president of the Family Y of Fayette County Board of Directors.
Through the bylaws of the trust, 10 percent of the annual income will automatically go to Mother of Dolors Catholic Church, and the remaining sum will be distributed to other beneficiaries at the discretion of the board of directors.
Vandalia citizens are witnesses to wise planning and charitable concern by Mr. and Mrs. Scarpaci, said FNB President Ernie Chappel.
"The community has been blessed by these thoughtful contributions," he said.
Charitable organizations may apply for Scarpaci funding through FNB in Vandalia.
