Friday, February 11
? The Vandalia Statehouse is among the Illinois sites hosting a simultaneous reading of Lincoln's Farewell Address at 11 a.m. The public is encouraged to participate in the live webcast attempt to set a new Guinness World Record. Story on Page 5B of this issue.
? A Civil War Victory Ball will be held from 7-11 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. "Salt Creek Band" will perform, and a caller will lead dances. Those dressed in period clothing will be admitted free of charge; admission for all others is $5.
Saturday, February 12

? The National Road Interpretive Center, located in the 100 block of South Fifth Street in Vandalia, will hold its third anniversary party from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The public is invited to see new items at the center.
? A Civil War Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Old State Burial Ground on East Johnson Street, south of the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? The Vandalia Statehouse's annual Lincoln's Birthday observance will be held at 2 p.m. The speaker will be Dan Guillory of the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition.
? A country music dance and potluck is held from 7-10 p.m. every Saturday at 202 W. Madison St. in Ramsey (the former Baptist Church). Admission is $5. For more information, contact Hugh Craig at 381-3139.
Sunday, February 13
? The Fayette County Coon Club will hold a buy, sell and trade day at 10 a.m. To get to the event, go south of Brownstown to Ill. Route 185 and then west to the first road south, or on Ill. Route 185 to the U.S. Route 40/Ill. Route 185 junction, then follow signs.
? The Shoal Creek Chapter of ABATE of Illinois will hold a chili cook-off from 1-5 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Registration is from 1-2 p.m., judging is from 2-3 p.m., and awards will be presented at 4 p.m. The entry fee is $5, and there are three classes – mild, medium and hot. The event will include an in-house benefit run, live auction, attendance prizes and door prizes.

Monday, February 13

? The Vandalia Lions Club meets at the Days Inn. The executive board meets at 5:15 p.m., and the regular club meeting is at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, February 15

? The Vandalia Rotary Club will meet at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? A craft class for children ages 8-17 will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at OUR PLACE Youth Center, 507 W. Gallatin St., Vandalia. Shayla Stewart will supervise.
? The Vandalia Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. at the district's administration center.
Wednesday, February 16

? An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2:30-6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Home in St. Peter.
