Eighth-grade boys regional schedule

Area eighth-grade boys basketball teams will compete at the regional tournament next week.

Third-seeded Vandalia received a bye in the first round and will face No. 2 Pana next Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at Central A&M.

The winner of that game will likely face No. 1 Greenville on Thursday.

Fourth-seeded St. Elmo faces No. 5 Beecher City on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Beecher City.

The winner will play top-seeded Ramsey on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

No. 5 Brownstown will play No. 4 Pana Sacred Heart on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Edinburg.

The winner advances to face the top-seeded hosts on Tuesday.

Fourth-seeded Mulberry Grove will play East St. Louis Jackson, a No. 5 seed, at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Sorento.

The winner will face top-seeded Pocahontas on Tuesday.

Seventh-grade boys regional results

Area teams had a tough go of it at regional tournament sites on Saturday. Vandalia was the only area team to win (click here).

•Brownstown lost to Pana Sacred Heart, 28-12
•Mulberry Grove lost to East St. Louis Jackson, 35-14
•Ramsey lost to Altamont, 27-25
•St. Elmo lost to Beecher City, 42-37

Junior high volleyball results

The Mulberry Grove Junior High volleyball teams lost to Nokomis in their season-opener on Jan. 14.

Mulberry Grove's seventh-graders lost the first set, 25-9, but rallied back to take the second set, 25-23. They narrowly lost the decider, 25-20.

The eighth-grade lost in straight sets, 25-16, 25-16.

Vandalia's junior high teams were canceled twice last week due to inclement weather.

The Vandal eighth-graders play at Edwardsville on Saturday.
