Vandalia Rehab & Health Care Center recently held its annual quilt raffle to raise funds for the special community outings program for their residents. Activity Director Eleanor McNutt had set a goal of raising $1,000, and staff members were able to surpass that goal by raising $1,015 during the ticket sales in November and December. Two handmade queen-sized quilts made by the residents and activity staff, along with a hand-knitted afghan made by a resident and a placemat set donated by the Extension office, were raffled off at their Old-Fashioned Cowboy Christmas family event in December. “Our residents enjoy being active members of our community,’ McNutt said. ‘The funds raised from the quilt raffle ensure that they will enjoy many fun trips during 2011. We recently took several residents to the Cheese Factory by Greenville, and they loved every minute of the trip.’ Residents are already starting to work on the quilts for this year’s raffle.
