St. Elmo falls despite some good pitching

Even though Tom Fedrigon saw his squad lose to Odin last Thursday, the St. Elmo softball coach took some positive things from it.
St. Elmo lost to Odin, 10-5, even though the Lady Eagles outhit Odin, 10-9.
Odin jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and added two runs in the fourth, but St. Elmo responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the third.
Odin put the game away with three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh. St. Elmo scored one run in each of the last three innings.
Audrianna Pruett (1-1) took the loss, giving up eight hits and eight runs in five innings of work. She struck out five and walked four.
“We pitched pretty well,” Fedrigon said. “Audrianna took the loss, but if she continues to pitch like she did (in this game), she will win a bunch of games.
“She did a nice job of keeping hitters off-balance with her changeup,” he said.
Baylee Scholes pitched the final two innings for St. Elmo, giving up two runs on one hit.
Pruett and Darby Moss led the offensive attack with two hits each, with Pruett driving in two runs.
Stephani Sapp had a double, and Scholes, Gabi Moore and Erica Behl had the team’s three other RBI’s.
The loss put St. Elmo’s season record at 3-2.
