John Ernest Simmons, 64, of Mulberry Grove, died at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at DesPeres Hospital in St. Louis.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville, with the Rev. Melissa Goodloe officiating. Burial was in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, with full military rites accorded by American Legion Post No. 1180 of Mulberry Grove. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Monday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Mt. Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Simmons was born on July 30, 1945, in Hillsboro, the son of Levi Newton and Florence Elizabeth Long Simmons. He married Pamela Rohn in 1979, and they were later divorced. He married Della McIntosh Garmon on June 15, 1999, in Mulberry Grove, with the Rev. Randy Whited officiating.
He is survived by his wife; and children, Joel Simmons of Greenville, Lee Simmons of Mt. Vernon, Jill Hartman of Highland, and Kayla and her husband Afif Naijar of Rolla, Mo.; and stepson, David Garmon and his wife Jackie of Highland.
