Darl Eugene McElroy, 85, of Patoka, died at 1:10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Graveside services were held at noon on Monday at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon. Visitation was held an hour before services on Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials: The family.
Mr. McElroy was born on March 13, 1924, in New Florence, Pa., the son of George Francis and Alice Jane Anderson McElroy. He married Kathrine M. Kubina on Dec. 5, 1941, in Bowling Green, Ohio; she died on July 31, 1981. He married Janet R. Cole on Dec. 19, 1981.
He was a stacker for Burks Hardwood Lumber in Vernon and a molder for 17 years at Crane Packing in Vandalia. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Roman Tinconi of Africa, Jim McElroy of Shobonier, Darl McElroy Jr. of Missouri, W. LeRoy Ishum Jr. of Kinmundy, and Russell McElroy and Deric, both of Patoka; daughters, Jayne Thorpe of Sandoval, Georgette Midcaff of Brownsville, Texas, Monica Lash of Ramsey, Colleen Bolyard of Vandalia, Annette Neff of Patoka, Tonya Lundy of Salem, and Jennifer Burrus of Eldon, Mo.; brother, Warren McElroy of Greenburg, Pa.; sister; Helen Echard of Hilliard, Ohio; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a son and two daughters.
