Mildred Bauer, 89, Vandalia

Mildred Bauer, 89, of Vandalia, formerly of rural Shobonier, passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Immanuel Lutheran Augsburg Church in rural Shobonier, Ill., with Pastor Bruce Milash officiating.

Visitation will held 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Augsburg Cemetery following funeral services. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Augsburg Church or to Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary.

Mrs, Bauer was born April 17,1920 in rural Shobonier, the daughter of Barney "J.B" Krug and Anna Devantier Krug.

She attended Heckethorn School and Augsburg Parochial School, graduating from the eighth grade. She received her G.E.D in November 1986 at the age of 66. She worked in St. Louis at housework, and in defense plants making bullets during the war. In September 1945, she married Andrew Bauer. He passed away Jan.18, 1988. The couple farmed near Shobonier for 35 years. She was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker, active in her church, a member of the Ladies Aid, Over 50 Club, a volunteer pink lady at Fayette County Hospital and a volunteer in G.E.M. (Going the Extra Mile) in Vandalia.She is survived by son, Michael and wife Diana Bauer, Shobonier; daughter, Becky and husband Steve Jones, St. Louis; daughter, Tammy and husband Leslie Sentel, Strasburg; and stepdaughter, Mary Ann Bauer, Duncanville, Ala. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven great-stepgrandchildren and two great-great-stepgrandchildren; sister Beatrice and husband Lester Grandt, St. Peter; sister-in-law Madeline Krug, Centralia; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; parents; sister, Elvera Krug; brother, Richard; and sister-in-law Bernetta Krug.

Arrangements were by Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia.
