Velma P. Carter, 90, of Vandalia and formerly of Fillmore, died at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Allen & Sutton Funeral Home in Fillmore, with the Revs. Harry Kirk and Ernest Flowers officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carter was born on Nov. 21, 1918, in Bingham, the daughter of John B. and Fairy Cearlock Fish. She married Rex Carter; he preceded her in death.
She was a retail businesswoman, owning and operating a beauty salon and also owning a restaurant.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Nina and her husband Loral “Babe” Williams of Ramsey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Nedra Richardson; and brother, Viron “Barney” Fish.
