George F. Peck, 78, of Vandalia and formerly of Rock Island, died on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Como Baptist Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Brent Cloyd officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at First Baptist Church in Vandalia. Mr. Peck was born on Jan. 3, 1931, in West Frankfort, the son of Dale and Lona Clark Peck. He married Lois Rushing on May 19, 1956, in Energy.
He retired in 1986 from the Rock Falls Post Office after 28 years of service. He then went to work for Rock Falls Elementary Schools, delivering school lunches. He was formerly a very active member of Como Baptist Church, and was involved in several areas of the church and the area Baptist association. He enjoyed going on mission trips to help build area churches. He enjoyed bluegrass and mission music. He served as treasurer for the retired seamen organization for the USS Braine.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Alan Peck and his wife Lisa of Lyndon, Bryan Peck and his wife Cindy, and Keven Peck and his wife Wendi of Key West, Fla.; grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Jarrod Clardie, and Melissa, Aaron, Jennifer, Ashley, Sean, Gareth and Michael Peck; sister, Louise King of Dixon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve Peck; and sister, Martha Elizabeth Gipson.
