VCHS track teams edged at Hillsboro
The Vandalia Community High School boys and girls track teams competed in a tightly contested quadrangular meet at Hillsboro on Tuesday – with both teams finishing second, one point behind the winning team.
The VCHS girls amassed 59 points – one point behind Greenville (60) and one point ahead of Breese Mater Dei (58). Host Hillsboro placed fourth with 27 points.
On the boys side, the Vandals scored 63 points – one behind Hillsboro (64) and four ahead of third-place Greenville (59). Mater Dei was fourth with 39.
The Vandal 4×200-meter relay team of Cody McGee, Drew Whightsil, Michael Galletto and Angel Osorio set a new school record of 1:40.9.
Because of wet conditions, the discus, long jump and triple jump were not contested in both meets. Temperatures were about 45 degrees during the meet.

Breese Central Meet
The girls squad competed in a meet at Breese Central on Monday that was shortened due to lightning. Due to wet conditions, the high jump was the only field event held.
First place:
Ashley Durbin in the 800 meters (2:37.9).
Second place:
Kayla Houston in the 400 meters (1:03.4) and high jump (4’10”).
Shelby Cearlock in the 300-meter low hurdles (:52.4).
