Grapperhaus will play at Illinois College

Illinois College announced on Tuesday that South Central multi-sport standout Isaac Grapperhaus will play basketball at the Jacksonville school.

The 6-foot, 6-inch Grapperhaus scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds per game in helping guide South Central to a 23-7 mark in Gary Shirley’s final season as head coach.

Grapperhaus was a second-team selection for the 2008-09 Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-state squad.

During his career at South Central, Grapperhaus scored more than 1,300 points and his 908 rebounds are the most in school history.

He was a first-team all conference selection and won the Most Valuable Player Award at both the Vandalia Holiday Tournament and St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.

Grapperhaus, the son of Joe and Kellie Grapperhaus, was also named to the Decatur Herald & Review’s first team on its all-area squad.

Illinois College is a member of the Midwest Conference and competes at the NCAA Division III level. Mike Worrell, in his 13th season as the head basketball coach, led IC to an 11-12 overall mark and a 8-8 record in the MWC.

Worrell’s teams have qualified for the Midwest Conference tournament four times, including the school’s first-ever berth in the NCAA Division III National Tournament in 2003.
