Geneva Thompson, 92, of Vandalia, died at 9:28 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Parkview Free Methodist Church in Vandalia, with Dr. Ward Sussenbach officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation was to be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials: Parkview Free Methodist Church.
Mrs. Thompson was born on Jan. 30, 1917, in Seminary Township in Fayette County, the daughter of William Clayton and Mary Margot Heather Cripe. She married John F. Thompson on March 23, 1936, in Vandalia; he died on April 3, 1979.
She was a homemaker and a nurse’s aide at Fayette County Hospital, and a member of Parkview Free Methodist Church in Vandalia.
She is survived by sons, Tom Thompson and his wife Mollie of Woodbine, N.J., and Gene Thompson and his wife Moyna of Vandalia; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Thompson of Vandalia; sisters, Wilma Thompson of Vandalia and Lexie Carter of Greenville; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Robert “Bob” Thompson; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five brothers; and two sisters.
