Charles Wayne Speed, 67, of Litchfield, died at 3:54 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31,2009, at his home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Oley Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: Montgomery County Cancer Society or Litchfield Food Pantry.
Mr. Speed was born on Feb. 15, 1942, in Litchfield, the son of Thomas Lee and Opal Eileen King Speed. He married Wilma Jean Lovall on March 5, 1908, in Litchfield; she died on Jan. 18, 2009.
Over the years, he was a machinist employed by Roller Derby Skate Corp. in Litchfield, and he later retired from Schutt Manufacturing, also of Litchfield. He was a past member of Moose Lodge No. 1634 in Litchfield, and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with his cows.
He is survived by a son, Thomas Speed of Mebane, N.C.; daughter, Sharon and her husband Mark Crawford of Litchfield; sisters, Shandra Estell of Hillsboro, Linda and her husband Phillip Burdell of Litchfield, and Nancy Pilger of Litchfield; and grandchildren, Scott Crawford, Jason Crawford and his wife Christina, and Brandy and her husband Ben McCario.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and and infant sister, Frieda Marie Speed.
