Hazel L. Belcher, 80, of Patoka, died on Monday, March 30, 2009, at Doctors Nursing Home in Salem.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Day Funeral Home in Patoka, with Brother John Klockenga officiating. Burial will be in Patoka Cemetery in Patoka. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial: Patoka Cemetery or Patoka Christian Church.
Mrs. Belcher was born on March 4, 1929, in Carrigan Township in Marion County, the daughter of Owen and Nell Thalman Belcher.
She lived her life in Patoka, and was a member of Patoka Christian Church. She was a cook in the dietary department at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia for five years, and then worked in the dietary department Murray’s Children’s Center in Centralia for 20 years before retiring in 1995.
She is survived by a sister, Nellie Fern Bassett of Salem; nieces, Donna and her husband Gary McWhirter of Kalkaska, Mich., Marsha and her husband Don Oertwig of St. Peter, and Kathy and her husband Mike Nalewajka of Normal; nephews, Mike Belcher and his wife Candy of Olney, James Bassett and his wife Joyce of Winston, Ga., Robert Bassett and his wife Etta of Kinmundy, Brian Bassett and his wife Cindy of Kinmundy; sisters-in-law, Wanda Belcher of Flora and Violet Belcher of Centralia; and many more nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Harold, Donald, Elmore, John, Wendell and Francis Belcher.
