Ida Mae Nave, 91, of Vandalia, died at 5:25 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Roger Grimmett officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials: Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman and Senior Citizens Center in Vandalia.
Mrs. Nave was born on Sept. 7, 1917, in Clinton, the daughter of Arthur James and Felma Elwin Keeney Atwood. She married Hershel Franklin Nave on Nov. 5, 1938, in Vandalia; he died on Sept. 27, 1991.
She was a retired laborer, working at the Almar Pencil Factory and Johnson, Stephens and Shinkle Shoe Factory (25 years), both in Vandalia, and a retired clerk at G.C. Murphy Dime Store in Vandalia, where she worked for eight years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Vandalia, was a Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary pink lady, and loved to dance and watch her grandchildren’s activities.
She is survived by daughters, Connie and her husband Tom Grubaugh of Mooresville, Ind., and Mary and her husband Mike Marchello of Chrisman; sister, Wanda King of Assumption; sister-in-law, Erma Atwood of Vandalia; and grandchildren, Kia, Kara, Nick and Tim.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Vicky Short; brothers, an infant and Arthur Atwood Jr.; sister, Edith Staff and Mary Oehler; and son-in-law, Richard Short.
