Hilda J. Oldham, 96, of Herrin and formerly of Fayette County, died at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia, with the Rev. Joe Lawson officiating. Burial was in Pinhook Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Mrs. Oldham was born on Oct. 10, 1912, in Loogootee, the daughter of Carl Frederick and Emma Louise Gerkin Torbeck. She married Herschel Wesley Oldham on Aug. 13, 1933, in Vandalia; he died on Nov. 29, 1992.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Lutheran Church.
She is survived by sons, Gary Richard Oldham and his wife Brenda of Springfield, Tenn., Herschel Charles Frederick Oldham of Virden, and David Wesley Oldham and his wife Kimberly of Lockport; daughters, LaVerne Emma Minnie and her husband Clarence Caufield of Springfield, Carol Ann Adams of Maricopa, Ariz., and Phyllis Jean Murphy of North Gladstone, Mo.; brother, Willard John Torbeck of Mesa, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Larry Wesley Oldham and Ronald Lee Oldham; daughter, Faye Grace Oldham; two brothers; and a sister.
