Derald H. Sasse, 78, of Vandalia, died at 4:50 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the family residence.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Augsburg Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Shobonier. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Shobonier, with the Revs. Douglas Meyer and Peter Kolb officiating. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Crawford-Hale American Legion Post No. 95 of Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday and an hour before services on Sunday, both at the church. Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Donor’s choice.
Mr. Sasse was born on Oct. 17, 1930, in Shobonier, the son of Elmer Fred and Anna Opfer Sasse. He married Carolyn Sue Adermann on Dec. 3, 1954, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia.
He was the former owner of Sasse Construction Co., and was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of Augsburg Immanuel Lutheran Church and Wodtka-Rothe-Reiss American Legion Post No. 380.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Ronald Sasse and his wife Linda of Jacksonville, Fla., Rickie Sasse and his wife Marsha of Vandalia, and Randy Sasse and his wife Melissa of Vandalia; daughter, Reginia and her husband Ed Moss of Mt. Zion; sister, Lorraine and her husband Richard Planck of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Christina Sasse of Baton Rouge, La., Keri and her husban Zak Kacmar of Shebogen, Wis., Joel Sasse and his fiancé Amanda of Palm Dale, Calif., Alicia Sasse of Sterling Heights, Mich., Michael Sasse and his wife Tammy of Brownstown, Matthew Sasse and his fiancé Sarah of Vandalia, Christian, Alexandere and Noah Sasse of Vandalia, and Jacob, Isaac and Abigail Moss of Mt. Zion; and great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremiah, Jeremain, Ruthie, Corie, Hunter, Shelby and Adrianna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Reba Ann Sasse; and brothers, Delbert Elmer Sasse and Allen Dennis Sasse.
