Lela C. Lockart, 98, of Vandalia, died at 3:21 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia, with the Rev. Marvin Gillam officiating. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Hohlt & File Funeral Home in Vandalia. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Foundation.
Mrs. Lockart was born on Dec. 5, 1910, in St. Clair, Mo., the daughter of John Reed and Myrtle Davis. She married Virgil F. Lockart on July 10, 1924, in Lepanto, Ark.; he died on Feb. 10, 1964.
She was a homemaker, and a member of Luster Chapel Methodist Church.
She is survived by daughters, Dorothy and her husband Cecil Cheshier, and Lois Rohlfing, both of Ventura, Calif.; son, Gerald Lockart and his wife Keiko of Gurnee; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Roy D. Lockart and Michael J. Lockart; parents; two brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild.
