Eugene Maluchnik, 80, of Vernon, died on Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.
Services were to be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval, with the Rev. Justin Olisaemeka officiating. Burial was to be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation was to be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Monday at Day Funeral Home in Sandoval.
Mr. Maluchnik was born on Jan. 27, 1929, in Chicago, the son of John and Victoria Maluchnik. He married Geraldine Freeman on June 15, 1979, in Chicago.
He and his wife moved to Vernon from Chicago 30 years ago. He was a truck driver for Marshall Fields in Chicago and also worked for Napier Ink in Salem. He was of the Catholic faith. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Chicago AmVets post. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife; son, Bryan Newsom and his wife Susan of Grayslake; daughters, JoAnn Mortoccio of Vernon, Rose and her husband Ted Quandt of Louisville, and Victoria Maluchnik of Chicago; grandchildren, Megan, Fred, Cathy, Patty and Jimmy; and three great-grandchildren, “special girl” Josie, Justin and Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and five sisters.
