Barbara L. Brown, 72, of Vandalia, died at 9:49 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Vandalia, with the Rev. Robert Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, rural Ramsey. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and one hour before services on Saturday, both at the church. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia was in charge of arrangements. Memorials: First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mrs. Brown was born on Nov. 11, 1936, in Fayette County, the daughter of Ralph Carlton and Mildred Edyth Rhoades Sanders. She married Lawrence Edward Brown on June 19, 1955, in Bayle City.
She retired from Brockway Plastics in Vandalia in 1996. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vandalia, a past member of the Fayette County Farm Bureau and a past tax assessor for Shafter Township.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Dewayne Brown of Bingham and Robert Robert of Beloit, Wis.; daughter, Julie and her husband Russell Stewart of Vandalia; sister, Vivian and her husband Keith Ritter of Collinsville; and grandchildren, Jamie, Josh, Holly, Ben, Ryan, Drew and Chelsey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Debra Jean, Sherri Lynn and Dawn Marie; brother, Donald; and an infant sister.
